    Had enough politics but still want your vote to count? Voting for the Best of the Hudson Valley may not change the political climate of the US, but it will help shape where we shop, eat, drink, pamper, celebrate, workout, and have fun! If you haven't already, check out this year's ballot immediately. For real. That email can wait, the dishes need to soak, and/or if you wait long enough, someone else might do the laundry anyway.

    Obviously, Zimmer Brothers Jewelry is your choice for Best Jewelry Store. Like, duh.  Also the best place to get an engagement ring, as well as best place to have your jewelry repaired. Don't forget best place to pick up a gift, or yourself a little something. We're proud to be your go-to jewelry store for all your sparkly needs! Help us help the Hudson Valley with theirs with your vote today.

    It's exciting, having this opportunity to share our picks for Best Of with the rest of the Hudson Valley. Letting some of the hidden gems (we, literally, can NOT keep our minds out of the cases) get more love is important. Unlike politics, there's no ban on the discussion (Ha! remember those days when that and religion were persona non grata on the what's ok to chat about list?) of our top choices.

    Best Comfort Food... have you eaten at The Matchbox Café on Route 9, just outside the village of Rhinebeck? Sam & Joann Cohen are not only super sweet, they make one heck of meal. Tossed salad with grilled chicken is a fav of the Rhinebeck staff. & if you've had an enormous salad for lunch, you deserve a homemade cookie, right? Right!

    Best Place for Lunch... Twisted Soul Food Concepts on Raymond Avenue in Poughkeepsie makes us weak in the knees. It might just be Brenda's cupcakes, but really, if you haven't sampled from their fusion menu, you're so totally and completely missing out.

    Best Boutique... Elizabeth Boutique on Collegeview Avenue in Poughkeepsie is our first stop whatever the occasion. Beth and her staff will help style an entire EB ensemble perfect for your needs. Looking perfectly put together is always a confidence builder and when is that a bad thing?

    Best Bookstore... No trip to Rhinebeck would be complete without a stop at Oblong Books. Seriously. If my husband only knew how much of my paycheck wound up in their till, yikes!

    What are some of your picks for Best of? We'd love to know!

  • I Love a (SALE)

    Posted on: March 24, 2016

    Apologies in advance, you'll have 'I Love a Parade' in your head, all day.

    I love a SALE;
    The shining of case,
    I love every face
    I see of a gem.
    I love a SALE;
    When I hear of one
    I just wanna run
    And buy everything before it's gone!

    If you're anything like me, the words "50% off" strike a cord deep in your heart. A shopper first and foremost, I love getting even more sparkle for my dollar. So, you can only imagine how excited I am about the sale case at Zimmer Brothers Jewelry's main store on Raymond Avenue in Poughkeepsie. Not only can I pick up a piece I've been eyeing, I can get two! My only dilemma, narrowing down the selection.

    I need this heart, right? 18K white gold, with diamonds and pink sapphires, I mean, come on? Who doesn't need it?!

    natasha heart

    These earrings? They match! So, yeah, I need them too.

    Summer IS coming. Annnnnd, it would be nice to have summer in my earlobes all year long, right?diamond starfishJust so you know, I'm not being entirely selfish either. These gemstone pendants would be fabulous gifts for my nieces. Yes, Christmas seems forever away right now, but I'll be thrilled to already have them once November rolls back around.

    My selflessness above deserves a reward! Perhaps a ring... or two?

    ringpinkok, fine, three...

    sapphireBecause you can't go wrong with Mobe Pearl, Pink Tourmaline or a Blue Sapphire, each accented with diamonds. Ever.

    Hurry into the Raymond Avenue location of Zimmer Brothers Jewelry and check out the sale case before I buy it all.

    Kidding. Not kidding.

  • What's It Worth To Ya?

    Posted on: March 17, 2016

    That isn't even a fair question. We already know that to you, it's priceless. If it means that much to you, you know what you have to do, right? Insure it. And, before that? Get it appraised.

    As is the case when buying your jewelry, it's important to go to someone who is both knowledgeable and trustworthy. Appraisers who have been certified by the American Gem Society, CGAs, have been educated in not only gemology but also the methodologies of jewelry and gemstone appraisals. Their aim is to furnish customers with top notch service and most up-to-date information available. Additionally, Certified Gem Appraisers complete an advanced course on the various uses for appraisals; these include estate taxes, divorce, and collateral. Additionally, they must maintain an Accredited Gem Laboratory, complete with gemological reference library and the gemological testing equipmeny needed in order to provide accurate indentifications. An AGS CGA provides for a fair and accurate appraisal like no other.

    Equally important to selecting a reputable appraiser, when discussing your jewelry with them, is to establish your needs and the purpose of the appraisal. The values assigned to jewelry can vary depending on the function of the final report.
